Planning and Preparation: Professional Development Opportunities

The domains of the Mayerson Academy’s Professional Development Framework and the Course Level Guide serve as resources for use in developing an individual pathway of professional learning:

  1. Review the Framework to determine areas of strengths and needs in a specific domain
  2. At the end of each domain, review the course offerings
  3. Refer to the Course Level Guide to determine appropriate level
  4. Go to MyPD to review detailed descriptions and register for selected course(s)

Course Level Guide


Level One

Participants in courses at this level will…
Examine beliefs, establish a base of knowledge, and begin to develop a repertoire of effective strategies

Level Two

Participants in courses at this level will…
Develop context and understanding of beliefs, deepen knowledge, and foster application of an evidence-based repertoire of strategies for effective teaching.

Level Three

Participants in courses at this level will…
practice and reflect on responsive teaching*, refine and use evidence-based repertoire of strategies, and practice and engage in collegial support and monitoring of the learning.

Level Four

Participants in courses at this level will…
practice and reflect on responsive leadership*, establish perspective for teacher leadership role, review and master practical use of implementation models, and expand in-depth knowledge of content needed to facilitate and lead professional development initiatives.

Courses at levels two, three, or four include elements from previous levels.

*Responsive teaching/leadership refers to a teaching/leadership style that is receptive, open, approachable, quick to respond, alert and reactive to immediate need.
