The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

Brief Description:The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is a comprehensive, evidenced based, school-wide program designed and evaluated for use in schools. The program’s goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations at school. The program has been found to reduce bullying among students, improve the social climate of classrooms, and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism and truancy.

Evidence Base for Training
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is a Level 2 U.S. Department of Education program which has been scientifically demonstrated to prevent bullying or reduce bullying and enhance protection for child and youth problems using either an experimental or quasi-experimental research design with a comparison group. Participant Outcomes:

  • Reduce existing bullying problems among students
  • Prevent the development of new bullying problems
  • Improve classroom social climate which impact students’ achievement

  • Reduced by 20% to 70% student reports of being bullied and bullying others
  • Increased positive social relationships among students
  • Increased positive attitudes toward schoolwork and school
