Science of Reading Partnership

Brief Description:The Science of Reading Partnership program between Mayerson Academy and the College of Mount St. Joseph has been deemed an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) recognized program—IDA’s highest category of recommendation. With this recognition, the Mount will now offer the Dyslexia Certificate in addition to the Reading Endorsement and Master’s Degree through the Science of Reading Partnership.

All courses are offered at Mayerson Academy at dates and times convenient to an educator’s schedule—with a 20% reduction in tuition.

The Mount is the only college in Ohio to receive this recognition and one of only nine in the nation. The Mount received this status after an objective independent review of programs by an expert team of IDA reviewers who looked at each course for alignment with the IDA Knowledge and Practice Standards.

Science of Reading Testimonials

We all work so hard at what we do, but unfortunately sometimes all of that hard work does not show in our students and test scores.  It isn't because we are bad teachers, or our students did not try; perhaps it is because we never learned the best way to teach reading.  The Masters of Reading Science program offered at Mayerson, in partnership with the College of Mount St. Joseph, has truly shined a light on what good practice in teaching reading is.  I am learning things in the courses that make so much sense, although I never learned any of it in my undergraduate studies just 4 years ago.  I am so excited to apply my knowledge because I know that my students will be successful.  I truly feel that this program is quite possibly one of the best things that I have chosen to be a part of, and I know that the results will show in my students and their scores. Stefanie Frankenstein, Teacher, Cincinnati Public Schools

The Science of Reading program is unlike any in the area.  Classes are perfectly balanced with practical skills for the classroom as well as the necessary knowledge needed to teach children how to read.  The teaching staff are not only passionate, but some of the best in the field! Larissa Phillips, Intervention Specialist, Forest Hills

…I am so pleased with the entire program. so far.  Literally, I have been able to incorporate something from every single class I have taken so far in completing this reading endorsement program, into my own classroom.  I am a better teacher because of this program, and I tell everyone I can about how pleased I am.  …the combined program between the Mount and Mayerson is top notch!  Thanks again. Gina Tierney, Teacher, Guardian Angels School

I am only half-way through the Mt. St. Joe Reading Endorsement program and I have already learned more about assessment and how to teach reading than I did in my entire M.Ed. Program. … The program focuses on increasing teachers’ understanding of the English language, using assessment to diagnose and remediate reading problems, and providing training in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading. After completing the MSJ program I will be well-equipped to meet the needs of struggling readers. I know I will be a better teacher as a result of taking this program. Elise, Reading Tutor
