PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

Overview of Organization: 
Mayerson Academy for Human Resource Development is a private, non-profit organization specializing in professional development for teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and district leaders in the areas of teaching/learning, leadership, school culture, and district change. The Academy has been in existence since 1992. While the primary client is Cincinnati Public Schools, the Academy does work with other districts both locally and nationally.

Position
Professional Development Specialist 

Position Summary
The professional development specialist manages professional development services in the areas of social studies K-12, clerical, paraprofessionals, and parents.   The person will also serve as liaison to a number of community organizations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prepares, manages, and implements annual work plan for the Academy in the areas of social studies, clerical, paraprofessionals, and parents in concert with curriculum councils and curriculum office.
  • Serves as liaison with Council for Economic Education, Council for World Affairs, Freedom Center, Parents for Public Schools, colleges, universities and community organizations in areas of responsibility.
  • Manages courses and professional development opportunities in areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and manages Applications for Professional Development (APD) and budgets in areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as liaison with CET in developing opportunities for partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years of experience as teacher and/or principal.
  • Minimum of four years of management experience.
  • Professional development experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Reports to the President of Mayerson Academy.

School Improvement Coach

Overview of Organization 
Mayerson Academy for Human Resource Development is a private, non-profit organization specializing in professional development for teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and district leaders in the areas of teaching/learning, leadership, school culture, and district change. The Academy has been in existence since 1992. While the primary client is Cincinnati Public Schools, the Academy does work with other districts both locally and nationally.

Position - School Improvement Coach—Grades K-8

Position Summary
A school improvement coach is assigned to two schools to support teachers and principals in improving the academic achievement of students as measured by Ohio Achievement Assessments. The School Improvement Coach works a teacher year plus two weeks in June and two weeks prior to the opening of school.

Position Responsibilities

  • Meet with the building principal of the school on a regular basis (e.g., weekly) to establish expectations and priority focus and to review progress to date.
  • Review Needs Assessment binder, audit reports, and OnePlan and analyze data for strategic planning.
  • Review School Assistance Plan (OIP) and support school in generating a more targeted Assistance Plan identifying specific technical support with a focus on areas that caused the school to be in School Improvement status.
  • Support schools in effective implementation, monitoring, evaluating and refining the OnePlan and School Assistance Plan through implementation and impact monitoring process.
  • Provide intense focus on language arts and mathematics standards-based education to support district-wide efforts consistently. This can include individual planning and consultation with teachers and teacher teams.
  • Assist the school with coordination of existing programs and initiatives, particularly the classroom walk-throughs and Response to Intervention.
  • Provide job-embedded professional development for leaders and teachers with focus on the Ohio Content Standards.
  • Demonstrate and model in the classroom effective teaching practices.
  • Provide resources and information for staff.
  • Assist the school with the development of behavioral and academic designs that create climate and conditions for optimal learning.
  • Analyze communication protocol in the school and make suggestions for improved systems where appropriate.
  • Assist the school, teacher teams, and individual teachers in data analysis using district Dashboard data as well as classroom assessment data.
  • Serve as a Learning Teams advisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum and assessment.
  • Ability and disposition to work on a team.
  • Coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about current research in major content areas
