Some Funding Available for National Board Candidates
House Bill 1 provided no state funding for National Board Certification candidate fees, support or stipends in Ohio for the 2010-2011 biennium budget. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) announced that it is making funding available through its Targeted High Need Initiative program to help Ohio teachers offset $1,000 of the $2,500 assessment fee for first-time National Board candidates. These funds also are available to pay the $350 cost for Ohio candidates to retake one entry of the National Board Certification process.
Details of NBPTS’ support for Ohio candidates and the application for financial assistance for the retake process can be found here. The application and payment deadline for retake candidates is Jan. 31, 2010. (Deadlines for next year’s first-time candidates will be announced in January.)
