Teaching is a profession. Licensure is a state requirement. Quality teaching is central to the mission of CPS. Meaningful professional development facilitates meeting the needs of diverse learners, strengthens teacher content knowledge and increases the repertoire of teaching strategies.
It is each teacher’s responsibility to complete an individual professional development plan to renew their license. The guidelines for that process are established and can be reviewed in the Educators Guidebook for Planning Professional Development.
Doing a self assessment based on the TES standards can be found in the TES handbook for annual observation. (http://staffnet.cps-k12.org/staffnet/TES/) Using the data gleaned from that analysis, helps the teachers prepare their Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
