Mayerson Academy Staff Directory

President
Kathleen T. Ware has served as the president of Mayerson Academy since May 2006.  She has an A.B. degree in English from the College of Mount St. Joseph, a M.Ed. in counseling from Xavier University, and advanced work in educational administration with Ohio licensing as a high school English teacher, K-12 reading teacher, high school principal, and assistant superintendent. The major portion of her career was spent with Cincinnati Public Schools where she taught high school English at the former Courter Technical High School, Western Hills High School, and Taft High School. She then served as supervisor of secondary English/language arts teachers, director of secondary education, and associate superintendent in charge of curriculum and instruction, research and evaluation, early childhood education, special education, vocational education, professional development, strategic planning, and educational reform initiatives.  After retiring from the Cincinnati Public Schools in 2002, Kathleen joined the faculty at the College of Mount St. Joseph where she served as chair of the Education Department until May 2006.  Click here to email Kathleen Ware

Melody Dacey

Melody Dacey served as elementary and secondary principal in six unique school settings including neighborhood, magnet, Montessori, and Community Learning Center schools. She taught all elementary grades and subjects as well as having served as an adjunct instructor at Xavier University. She joined the Mayerson staff in August 2006. Click here to email Melody Dacey

C. Edward Green

C. Edward Green is the director of marketing and public relations and an educational consultant in the area of second language acquisition. His BA degree from the University of Findlay is in foreign language and bilingual/multicultural education. His M.Ed. is in urban educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati. Ed also has a J.D. from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.  Ed worked five years in Dayton Public Schools teaching Spanish. He spent 11 years as an ESL teacher and program coordinator in Cincinnati Public Schools. As an attorney, Ed worked for abused and neglected children and students with disabilities-focusing on education law and policy reform.  At Mayerson Academy, Ed has worked as an instructional coach and professional development specialist. He is an adjunct professor at several career colleges and universities.  Currently, Ed is completing a two-year research project that was funded through a Carl Perkins Grant focusing on lowering dropout rates among limited English proficient (English as a Second Language) students. Wayne Harner

Wayne Harner is an education consultant in mathematics and a professional development specialist at Mayerson Academy.  He received his undergraduate degrees in mathematics and business administration from Ithaca College.  His graduate work includes an M.Ed. from the University of Cincinnati and a Fellowship in computer literacy from Dartmouth College.  He is certified in Mathematics, Business Administration, and Special Education with specialties in severe behavior handicaps, developmental disabilities and learning disabilities.  During his thirty years with Cincinnati Public Schools Wayne served as a math teacher and math department chair at Porter Middle School and at Hughes Center High School.  He has also served as a math intervention specialist and a teacher at the Behavior Learning Problems School. He was the co-founder of the Altercrest School.  Wayne has also served as an adjunct professor for several local colleges.  Since joining Mayerson Academy in 2006, Wayne has been the math coach for the CPS High School Instructional Support Team and professional development specialist.  He is currently developing and coordinating the Cincinnati-based Vermont Mathematics Initiative.  The CVMI program is designed to train CPS teacher leaders to become content specialists in mathematics.  For more information about CVMI, click here. Sonia Milrod is a Professional Development Specialist for Literacy at Mayerson Academy. She graduated from UCLA with an AB degree in English and 5th year teaching certification in secondary education. Her graduate work includes an M.Ed. in reading instruction and doctoral studies in administration from the University of Louisville and certification in educational supervision and superintendency from Xavier University. She began her career in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a reading/language arts teacher (7-9), was recognized as a Teacher of the Year, and became a secondary language arts coach. In Jefferson County Schools, KY, Sonia taught reading, English, and journalism (8-12); established the district's first writing computer lab; served as the district's reading/language arts specialist (K-12); and co-directed the Louisville Writing Project. Sonia served as the Kentucky Region 4 Educational Technology Coordinator for the KY Department of Education; Director of Instruction for Campbell County Schools; and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for Mason City Schools, OH. Sue Raudabaugh

Sue Raudabaugh, Professional Development Specialist for Educational Technology, joined Mayerson Academy in August 2007.  She graduated from Wright State University with a BA degree and teaching certification in secondary mathematics and computer science.  Her graduate studies include a Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in the Social Foundations of Education as well as doctoral studies in educational administration for her secondary principal’s certification.  She received her Paideia training from Xavier University and her Pascal programming training from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.  Sue began her career as a mathematics teacher at Western Hills Schools, and taught both mathematics and computer science in the International Baccalaureate Program at Withrow High School.  As program facilitator, she developed the High School for the Computer Professions at Hughes Center, where she also served as assistant principal for all of the programs at Hughes Center.  Sue has experience as principal at both Jacobs Middle School and at Aiken Traditional High School.  She also taught college algebra at Gateway Community and Technology College in northern Kentucky.  In addition to these school-based experiences, she developed further administrative skills as a Human Resources Manager for Cincinnati Public Schools.  Before becoming the Professional Development Specialist for Educational Technology, Sue worked with high school mathematics teachers as an instructional coach at Mayerson Academy. Gwen Walton

Gwendolyn J.Walton is a Professional Development Specialist at the Academy.  She works specifically in the areas of Positive School Culture, a Cincinnati Public Schools district initiative, and the Orton Gillingham multi-sensory reading program.  She also leads and facilitates several expert cadre teacher/administrator teams in the areas of Culturally Responsive Practices, Positive School Culture, Differentiated Instruction and Co-Teaching. Gwen graduated from Hampton University, Hampton, Va. where she received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and one year later a M.Ed. degree with Certification in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Cincinnati.  Gwen’s career in education began as a math and science teacher; she was later appointed to Assistant Principal and then Principal where she served at Carthage Elementary and Woodford Paideia. During that time she was appointed Lead Principal and was the recipient of the James N. Jacobs “Excellence in Education” award.  The following year she was recognized as “Outstanding Principal” by Superintendent Jacobs.  From Lead Principal she was appointed to the position of Leadership Facilitator where her responsibilities included the supervision and appraisal of 24 building principals. Kathy Witherup

Kathy Witherup is an education consultant in educational pedagogy and a professional development specialist at Mayerson Academy. She is certified by Cambium Learning/Sopris West as a regional LETRS (Language Essentials for the Teachers of Reading and Spelling) trainer.  She graduated from the two-year NSDC Professional Learning Academy XVI. She leads the Kagan Cooperative Learning and Learning Team initiatives at the Academy.   She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University in comprehensive social studies with certification in secondary education.  She holds an M. Ed in administration and reading from the University of Cincinnati. Kathy has certification in educational supervision from Xavier University. Kathy has served in professional educator roles as a teacher of grades 4 - 12, assistant principal, manager of school reform projects in central office administration, a grant writer, and as an adjunct professor at two local colleges and universities.  Click here to email Kathy Witherup 

Instructional Coaches
Franki Bryant

Franki Bryant Cunningham is a high school learning team advisor and literacy coach for the Academy.  She graduated from Kentucky State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and history.  Franki holds an M. Ed. in reading and is certified as a reading specialist through the University of Cincinnati.  She was recognized as Teacher of the Year in her fourth year of teaching.  Franki taught English 7-12 for Cincinnati Public Schools and was a participant in the district’s first Writing Workshop.  She also served as a consulting teacher in English 7-12,  a facilitator of the Peer Assistance and Evaluation Program, an English department chair at Robert A. Taft High School, and an instructor for the GEAR-UP and GRADS programs at Cincinnati State. She has been an adjunct professor of English and African American Literature at the University of Cincinnati. Franki has recently completed LETRS training. Caren Karlage
Caren Karlage is a school improvement coach at Mayerson Academy and a member of the Kagan Cooperative Learning expert cadre. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University and an M.Ed. in School Administration from Xavier University, where she currently is an adjunct professor teaching Reading Assessment and Strategies for Language Processing Disorders through the Special Education Department. She holds additional certifications in Paideia through Xavier University and from Pat Wolfe on Brain Matters: Translating Brain Research into Classroom Learning.  Caren retired from Cincinnati Public Schools after 31 years in which she served as an intermediate math and science teacher, Standards in Practice Coach, School Wide Lead Teacher, and District SIP Manager.  Caren has been a national trainer for Education Trust in the Standards in Practice Protocol, working with districts across the US.  Click here to email Caren Karlage
Connie Meyer
Connie Meyer is a school improvement coach. She is using her lead teacher, content reading, curriculum development, and writing model lessons expertise in her current position.  Connie received a B.A. in Education from Ohio State University and an M.Ed. in reading and reading supervision from the College of Mt. St. Joseph. Her post-graduate work includes studies in Inclusion Strategies, Gifted and Talented, Supervision, Quality Classrooms, Instructional Alignment, Writing across the Curriculum, and Standards in Practice.  She has served as a reading and English instructor in Cincinnati Public schools and as an adjunct professor at a local college teaching graduate level content reading classes. Click here to email Connie Meyer
Bonita White, School Improvement Coach at Mayerson Academy, joined the Academy staff in August 2008.  She graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  Her graduate work includes a M.Ed. in Reading Instruction with an administrative focus in professional development from Xavier University.  She also has Montessori and Paideia certifications from Xavier University.  She began her career in Cincinnati Public Schools as an elementary teacher.  After becoming a Lead Teacher, she served on the district’s CUSI Leadership Core Team and the Local Professional Development Committee.  She has also worked as a Standards in Practice Coach, Mathematics Coach, and Director of Education at the Cincinnati Arts & Technology Center.  As a school-level Lead Teacher she has been a School-wide and Direct Instruction Facilitator.  Bonita has served on numerous district-level committees focusing on curriculum and instruction, and she has facilitated Professional Development at Mayerson Academy. Liz Wymer
Liz Wymer is a school improvement science coach for Mayerson Academy. Liz holds Montessori teaching credentials from the American Montessori Society for ages 6-12.  She is a credentialed and experienced Orton-Gillingham tutor and Junior Great Books leader. She majored in English at Kent State University and obtained her undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Cincinnati. She earned certification as a teacher of students with learning disabilities from the College of Mt. St. Joseph.  She holds an M.Ed. in Montessori education from Xavier University and completed post-graduate work in science education at Miami University. Liz has taught in public and private schools in Cleveland and suburban Cincinnati.  She has also taught in several Cincinnati Public Schools buildings including a Montessori school. She spent three years working as a consulting teacher/teacher evaluator for CPS’ Teacher Evaluation System.
