Become an Orton-Gillingham certified teacher through Mayerson Academy’s accredited program!
Thanks to more than two decades of work in the field, our experts are established as recognized leaders in literacy, equipping teachers to develop students’ capacity to become successful readers and writers. An outside evaluator from the Ohio Department of Education’s Dyslexia Pilot rated Mayerson Academy’s program “exemplary professional development” due to the significant reading gains of students.
Mayerson Academy’s Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program addresses the five essential components of reading—phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension—as recommended by the National Reading Panel Report (2000). Instruction includes the phonology, orthography, morphology, history, syntax and semantics of the English language. Participants learn the fundamentals of the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling using an explicit, structured language approach with multisensory methodology providing maximum opportunities for reinforcement and engagement.
Designed for pre-K–6 classroom teachers, K–12 intervention specialists, and tutors of those with dyslexia or reading difficulties, Mayerson Academy’s Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program courses are offered in a face-to-face format or online. The practicum is what makes Mayerson Academy’s Orton-Gillingham training uniquely effective. Under the 1:1 coaching and supervision of master teachers, participants learn to design and implement explicit, systematic and structured multisensory lesson plans custom-tailored to the needs of individual students or small groups. This is not a scripted program.
